Additional Summer Cohort Work
Just Shoot Me
Photograph taken by Tracy Marshall. Our first assignment was to take a photo to use during our introductions. This photo shows some of the playful and adventurous side to me. While sometimes I take myself too seriously, I think it's important to keep a lighthearted attitude about most things. |
Group Poster
Group Members: Jeff Pierce, Abigail Kuhn, Melissa Bouza, Yalonda Combs After forming our groups on the first day, we were asked to decide a name for our group and create a corresponding poster. Our name (JAMY 3.19...ish) includes the first letter of our names (Jeff, Abby, Melissa, and Yalonda). 3.19 describes how we ranked our comfort and expertise with technology, though it was only an estimate, so we added the "ish." We knew once we left the face-to-face sessions our group would be in many different places and time zones, which partially led us to our tagline. Our tagline also uses a play on "JAMY," as we pronounce it like one might say "jammies." |

Behaviorism
Group Members: Jeff Pierce, Abigail Kuhn, Melissa Bouza, Yalonda Combs During these courses, we explored multiple learning theories. During our discussions on behaviorism, we were asked to create a presentation that addressed specific ways to change behavior as they relate to chosen software. Our group looked at chaining and extinction through the Social Navigator App. |
Physics 101
Group Members: Jeff Pierce, Abigail Kuhn, Melissa Bouza, Yalonda Combs The physics lab project was designed to have us explore situative cognition where we were to engage in an authentic learning situation based on a short experiment. The assignment also allowed us to continue to think about how our prior knowledge or misconceptions can affect how we view a situation. This would be explored further in our Understanding Understanding project. Through our short experiment we were to show in our video the answers to the following: 1. Where does a ball fall when it is dropped by a person a) standing still, b) walking, and c) running? 2. Which hits the ground first? A ball that drops straight down or another that is pushed off a table? |

Demotivational Posters
Group Members: Abigail Kuhn, Ashley Chrumka, Renee Jorae, Kim Owens After reading some of Carol Dweck's work on the way that we praise children and its effects on their learning, we were asked to create demotivational posters. This poster that we created is meant to highlight Dweck's idea that if we always praise a student on his/her abilities, it can have an impact on how the student views the importance of effort in order to learn. |
